Sandro (Sam) Clementi

(May 2, 1928 - February 17, 2008)

Plastican and its culture are largely the product of its founder’s vision. When Sandro (Sam) Clementi founded the company in 1970, he wanted to create rigid packaging which would bring extraordinary value to its customers. Already a veteran of the plastics industry, Mr. Clementi was a great believer in technology and the ways in which it could be used to make products better and more economical. In applying advanced technology to the design and manufacture of containers for the food industry, Plastican revolutionized packaging for eggs, icings, jellies and fillings of all types. In working with major resin manufacturers, Plastican developed special blends of high density polyethylene which could withstand the high temperatures of hot filling, while being capable of being flash frozen immediately thereafter. Problems associated with other forms of packaging, such as rusting, denting and leakage became history as a new standard was set.

As much as Mr. Clementi believed in technology, he believed even more in people. He knew that technology is of no value if customers don’t receive first class products on time. For that reason customer service has always been at the center of Plastican’s corporate culture. It’s also the reason that each of Plastican’s plants has its own customer service team that works with plant personnel and field sales representatives to make sure that customers’ needs are fulfilled locally.

When Mr. Clementi founded Plastican, he envisioned a company that would be consistently probing the limits of design and technology to fulfill unimagined needs in the future. His legacy lives on at Plastican, where new designs and applications are constantly being brought to the fore. Industries as diverse as swimming pool chemicals and paint and coatings are the beneficiaries of new and patented designs that will add value for packagers and consumers alike. New and innovative products are a major part of Plastican’s future precisely because they have been so important in Plastican’s past. Mr. Clementi would have it no other way.
